On International Women’s Day 2024, the Dialogue and Culture Organization (DCO), in collaboration with Kurdsat Broadcasting Corporation—one of Iraq’s foremost institutions—initiated the “Women are the Symbol of Always Spring” project. This campaign was designed to provide essential support to vulnerable women by mobilizing the medical community in Sulaymaniyah. Doctors were encouraged to offer free consultations or substantial discounts of 75%, 50%, or 30% for one week.
To ensure the effective implementation of this initiative, Sulaymaniyah was strategically divided into four zones, focusing on areas with a high concentration of clinics. A dedicated team of 80 to 100 DCO volunteers was organized into small groups and tasked with visiting over a thousand doctors to secure their participation. This collaborative effort aimed to make healthcare more accessible to women in need.
The project achieved remarkable success:
- Over 5,000 women benefited from free consultations, receiving critical medical advice and care without any financial burden.
- More than 8,000 additional consultations were provided at significantly discounted rates, making healthcare services more affordable for a larger number of women.
- In an extraordinary display of generosity and commitment, 67 free surgeries were performed, addressing urgent medical needs and improving the lives of many women.
This initiative not only highlighted the community’s dedication to women’s health and well-being but also set a precedent for future collaborations aimed at supporting vulnerable populations. The “Women are the Symbol of Always Spring” project stands as a testament to what can be achieved when organizations and volunteers come together with a shared vision of compassion and service.
